What is community-based education?

What is community-based education?

Community-based education happens when local communities determine educational needs within their context and create programs to address them.
Community-based education sponsorship is cost-effective and allows schools the freedom to decide what is best for students and families in their area. Sponsorship costs go to supporting whole education initiatives rather than individual students.

Global Family focuses on four key aspects of education: access, curriculum, instructional methods and community ownership.
Some initiatives funded by Global Family include:

- support for student scholarships
- nutritious lunches and snacks
- library materials
- school supplies
- school fees
- uniforms
- teacher training
- special equipment for students with disabilities
- residential orphanages
- peace education/peace clubs
- vocational training
- after school programs
- programs for at risk/street children
-day care & early childhood education
